The City is installing a new pedestrian signal on Rutherford Street in front of Hardee’s, near the intersection of Echols Street. The project scope includes reconfiguring the center turn lane on Rutherford Street by adding landscaping and installing a concrete median to make Echols Street right-in/right-out only. One of the two Hardee’s driveways will also be closed.
There is a significant amount of pedestrian traffic along this section of Rutherford Street and numerous pedestrian-related accidents have occurred over the past few years. The project was identified in the recently-completed Downtown Transportation Master Plan and is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety in high traffic areas in and around downtown.
