Greenlink Welcomes 2020 Citizens Transit Academy Class

Greenlink’s second annual Citizens Transit Academy began on January 7 with a 24-member class. The free six-week program offers participants a unique opportunity to learn about public transportation and the opportunities and challenges facing Greenlink. Graduates of the Citizens Transit Academy will be recognized as knowledgeable representatives for public transit and will be encouraged to serve in leadership roles and seek opportunities to engage the community in conversations about transit.

Follow-Up: Changes to Route 504: Anderson and Route 508: Wade Hampton

Greenlink held four public meetings in October and conducted an online public survey from October 17 to November 18 to solicit community input on proposed changes to Route 504: Anderson and Route 508: Wade Hampton, which were proving difficult to operate on time. A summary of the public input and evaluations can be found here.

The Greenville Transit Authority Board of Directors held a work session on December 11 to discuss staff recommendations regarding the two routes.

Due to the number of customers who expressed disfavor for the proposed changes, the Board voted to temporarily eliminate the pulse/transfer policy rather than change the routes at the December 19 Board meeting. This change went into effect on January 2.

As a result, buses now depart from the Transit Center at the 30-minute mark of each hour regardless of whether all buses have arrived for transfers to occur or not. Additionally, customers who miss a transfer no longer receive complimentary bus passes for their inconvenience. However, Greenlink will hold the last trip of the night for all connections so that customers can transfer to complete their trip.

Staff will be evaluating each route’s on-time performance to make further recommendations.

Customer Listening Sessions: We Want to Hear From You!

Greenlink implemented multiple route changes on July 1, 2019. Now that these routes have been in service for six months, Greenlink is seeking rider feedback on the routes. How are the routes working? What would you change? What would you keep in place?

The Customer Listening Sessions are scheduled for the following dates. All sessions will take place at the Greenlink Transit Center (100 W. McBee Avenue):

  • Saturday, January 25: 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, January 30: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 6: 6:30 – 7:30 a.m.

Customer feedback may prompt further evaluations of ridership and on-time performance data, which may result in staff recommendations for future route changes. Individuals who are unable to attend a Customer Listening Session may email their feedback to ksullivan@greenvillesc.gov by February 13, 2020.

Passenger Orientation

Learn to Navigate the Greenlink System

Greenlink offers new customers the opportunity to familiarize themselves with our vehicles and boarding procedures in a controlled, relaxed environment prior to their first time riding the bus. Because vehicles used for orientation sessions are not actively in service, they also allow ample time for passengers with disabilities to get acquainted with the vehicle features designed to assist and protect them.

The orientation session lasts approximately one hour and covers:

  • How to plan a bus trip
  • How to board and pay the fare
  • How to ride and signal a stop request
  • How to load and unload a bicycle on the bicycle rack

New passenger orientations are offered on the 2nd Thursday of each month at both noon and 5:30 p.m. at the Greenlink Transit Center (100 W. McBee Avenue). Registration is required. Please complete this form to register for one of the orientation sessions.

In addition to scheduled orientation sessions, Greenlink can also accommodate individual requests. If you are unable to attend one of the sessions, please contact us at 864-298-2756 or nmcaden@greenvillesc.gov.
