Economic Impact Analysis - Investing in Transit is good for our economy

Greenville Connects unveiled an Economic Impact Analysis that calculates the financial return that transit expansions would create. The study, conducted by a University of South Carolina professor, found that increasing transit services could remove transportation barriers for people who are currently unemployed and not seeking employment. Under the assumption that between 25% – 75% of these individuals would now have the ability to work full-time, these new employment levels would generate a permanent increase in total economic activity of between $671.9 million and $2.0 billion annually.

Greenlink Rider Perks

Greenlink is launching a new program to incentivize using transit for your next trip to downtown Greenville. The program partners with downtown attractions – including the Greenville Drive, Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Sigal Music Museum, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, and the Upcountry History Museum – to provide special “perks” to those who use the bus to get to the game or museum. Not only is riding transit great for the environment, it’s also a way to eliminate the hassle of parking and add to your downtown Greenville experience. Riders are encouraged to use the bus to get into downtown Greenville, stroll through downtown and enjoy visiting restaurants and retailers, as they make their way to their destination.

Specific discounts are listed on the Greenlink website at https://www.greenvillesc.gov/2113/Rider-Perks. Bus rides must be taken within two hours of the time of purchase to receive the Perk. Passengers must show proof of a recent bus ride via the Umo Mobility app or by logging into the Umo Passenger Portal for Umo smartcard customers.

FindGreenlink App will Sunset This Summer

The FindGreenlink app, which tracks the real-time location of buses, will sunset this summer. Officially, beginning July 1, Greenlink will partner with the Transit app for all real-time information.

Customers are encouraged to download Transit on your phones today to get accustomed to the new app before July 1.

Bus Operator In Training Program

Greenlink is hiring bus drivers! Greenlink bus drivers help meet Greenville County residents’ day-to-day needs by transporting passengers to their jobs, medical appointments, the grocery store and other important errands.

But don’t have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)? No problem!

Greenlink now offers in-house training with the “Bus Operator in Training” position.

Applicants who don’t have a South Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will undergo training at the beginning of the program and will be required to obtain their Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) within 2 weeks of hire and their CDL within 8 weeks.

There’s no fee to participate in the CDL training, which would normally cost you over $2,000. And, while you’re actively enrolled in our Bus Operator in Training program, you’ll earn $19 an hour.  

The program includes classroom and hands-on training and provides the skills and knowledge required to operate a public transit bus safely and independently. Trainees who complete the program will be promoted to Bus Operator.
